Ana Patricia & Duda of Brazil snap gold medal drought in women’s beach at Paris 2024 Olympics
In the first three set gold medal beach volleyball at the Olympics it was clear why the number one seeded Brazil would be up to the task to snap a podium drought for beach volleyball for the first time since the 1996 Olympic games. In a match that lived up to the promise, Canada’s Brandie Wilkerson and Melissa Humana-Paredes made an incredible second set comeback after a grueling first set setting the stage for a deciding third. After an initial round of volleys back and forth the Brazilian duo was able to create the margin they needed ultimately closing with a 17-14 victory over the Canadians.
For team Canada this was their first every podium in women’s beach volleyball and an incredible achievement for Brandie and Melissa that had to dig deep through the tournament to make their way to the final. For Ana Patricia and Duda this was the coronation of well deserved slog of a quad that was filled with highs and lows on the Elite 16 tour with lowest point being their loss in the World Championships to team USA’s Kelly Cheng and Sara Hughes.
