With arguably the best blocker in the women’s game, and one of the most dynamic defenders on the same team it’s little wonder that in their opener Melissa and Brandie effectively pitched a shutout with their 21-16, and 21-12 sets against Paraguay. Canada hopes to crush the Olympic dreams of hopefuls on team USA and Brazil, and this opening statement that lasted only 42 minutes in one of the fastest matches of the tournament so far left quite the impression on the sand. Amidst defeaning chants from the packed Eiffel Tower Stadium it was clear this was always going to be a one sided outing.
Melissa and Brandie will face Switzerland's Zoe Verge-Depre and Esmee Boebner on Wednesday as they continue their campaign.
