Kelly Cheng and Sara Hughes fall to Switzerland’s Hüberli and Brunner in 2024 Paris Olympics Quarter Final
In a match that can only be summarized as a game of margins it was all team Switzerland as after an incredible first set turnaround they pushed back a team USA run at the 15 point mark making their own push to win the set. From there, things continued to go from bad to worse for Kelly Cheng and Sara Hughes that struggled to get into a meaningful run against the Swiss, playing an incredibly tight second set and never meaningfully pulling away to make their move to a third set. As the second set approached an end both teams traded blows exchanging the lead and splitting hairs on ace serves and well timed side outs. For team USA it wasn’t to be, and ultimately in an upset that has eliminated both women’s team USA teams from medal contention it will be remembered as a shock to the former world champions.
