San Diego Wave manage tie against Trinity Rodman and the Washington Spirit

In a match that seemed to be a repeat of the continued woes for the San Diego Wave there were positive moments of unity that point to upside as they try to work their way into a heavily contended playoff position. With both goals coming from Kristen McNabb, one on an own goal and the other coming from a corner kick scrum off of a Maria Sanchez delivery that put the Wave even with time left for either team to decide the game.

For the Washington Spirit it was a frustrating night of solid defensive stops from a back line once again joined by Naomi Girma fresh off her Olympic Gold Medal campaign in the Paris games. Trinity Rodman launched one menacing attack up the line after another but was faced with a determined Wave and a Kailen Sheridan that was looking to right the ship after a dissapointing outing against Angel City FC the previous week.

Landon Donovan remarked after the game about the continue progress of the Wave side under his leadership as they enter the three week mark, and was hopeful about the outlook for the remainder of the season while also cautiously reminding of the difficulty in turning around a season like Wave’s. With only 8 games left in the NWSL season it will take near perfection for the Wave to make a run in the playoffs, but Donovan believes his side is built to do it.
