LA Sparks get huge win over NY Liberty in homestand
Fluid offense, timely threes, big defensive stops, and an off shooting night for Sabrina Ionescu. An ideal recipe for an upset in a homestand that has seen a series of disappointing losses for the Sparks looking to find rhythm as they try to build a foundation for next season.
The Sparks broke from previous games as they built an impressive lead right out of the first quarter hitting shot after shot, and making defensive stands against a vicious Ionescu and Stuart pick and roll that was matched with switches that made their job difficult with Stuart leading scoring for the Liberty with 32 points and 6 rebounds. For Sabrina Ionescue it was a frustrating 4th quarter missing 4 three point attempts in a row trying to dig out of the hole they had gotten into on an 18 point 6 assist and 5 rebound night.
For the Sparks it was a brilliant night of team basketball with 5 players in double digits and Dearica Hamby leading scoring with 21 points 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Rickea Jackson continues to show her growth in the offensive rotations with 19 points on the night, and causing issues for the Liberty with relentless drives to the rim.
For the Liberty who continues their dominant run this WNBA season this was a reminder that in the WNBA you can lose to any team regardless of standings and will be a lesson drawn as they head into a playoffs campaign looking for a title.
