Angel City FC defeats SD Wave in San Diego in 2-1 win

In Landon Donovan’s first official outing as head coach of San Diego Wave FC during the NWSL season it was a mix of lineups and lapses that characterized an impressive ACFC win over a Wave team that continues to struggle to find its identity.

With both Alex Morgan and Christen Press coming off the bench in the SoCal rival derby it was an ACFC performance that saw a determined offensive pressure that took advantage of Wave’s missing Naomi Girma that missed the game resting from her Gold Medal Campaign with the US National team at the Paris Olympic Games. Alyssa Thompson scored two convincing goals that came off the heals of defensive lapses continuing her impressive rise this season for ACFC.

Wave continues to look for some momentum in the remainder of this season fighting to make the playoffs after a deep run to the semifinals last year. For ACFC the continued momentum coming after a 7-0 rout in Mexico and this win provide ample foundation to build towards a campaign in the NWSL playoffs.
